Abuja Lawyer Victor Giwa Detained for Deployment of Thugs and Disobedience of Court of Appeal Judgment

Posted on June 4, 2024

Victor Giwa, a lawyer representing property developer Cecil Osakwe, has been detained at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) in Abuja for allegedly deploying thugs to No. 1 Mekong Close, Maitama.

Following a unanimous judgment by a three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal on May 21, 2024, which declared Ms. Asabe Waziri the rightful owner of apartments 3BC, Victor Giwa and Cecil Osakwe allegedly took the law into their own hands by defying the Court of Appeal’s judgement restoring her as the owner of the property. They allegedly deployed armed thugs to the residence, preventing Ms. Waziri and her wards from accessing her property after an illegal eviction orchestrated by Giwa on March 18, 2022.

Earlier today, residents and passersby reportedly say police were seen at the residence making arrests following this breach of peace.

Additionally, a source at the FCT Command informs our reporter that Victor Giwa was invited in 2023 for illegally evicting four tenants at 35 Usuma Street, off Gana Street, using thugs and has now been arrested for same alleged offence.
