Man, 35, Arrested For Swindling Lady Of N7m At Computer Village Over Visa

A 35-year old man, Oluwaseyi Okunola, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a lady, Joy Ifeoma Otodo, of the sum of N7m over visa.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 7th November, 2025 at Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect convinced the complainant that he had the contact to procure Canadian visa and she paid the agreed sum.
However, after collecting the money from the victim, he bolted away and disconnected every communication he had with the victim.
The matter was reported to the Police. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, OLUWASEYI OKUNOLA ‘M’ and others now at large on the 7th day of November, 2025 at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit; obtaining money by false pretence and stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:” That you, OLUWASEYI OKUNOLA ‘M’ on the same date. time, and place in the aforesaid magisterial district, with the intent to defraud, obtained the sum of Seven Million Naira (N7,000,000) from one JOY IFEOMA OTODO ‘F’ under the pretence that you were going to procure Canadian Visa for her, which you did not do and knowing same to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Laws Of Lagos State Of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT III:” That you, OLUWASEYI OKUNOLA ‘M’ on the same date. time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district, did steal the sum of Seven Million Naira only (7,000,000), property of one JOY IFEOMA OTODO ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State Of Nigeria 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
