Posted on November 30, 2023

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has expressed delight with the management of AfriKing Homes for the successful completion and handover of the Abuja National Stadium training pitch to the Ministry of Sports Development under the Adopt-A-Facility Initiative.

In a mini-ceremonial event held in Abuja on Thursday, the real estate company officially handed over the fully renovated pitch to the Ministry, with top ministry officials, led Senator John Enoh in attendance.

Afriking Homes assumed the responsibility for rehabilitating the Moshood Abiola National Stadium training pitch earlier this year as part of the Adopt-A-Pitch initiative, initiated by former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare.

During the occasion, Senator Enoh lauded the organization for its exceptional commitment and exemplary execution, citing it as a remarkable achievement.

Senator Enoh urged other corporate entities to follow suit and actively participate in similar ventures. He reiterated that by the provision of the National Sports Industry Policy, the Ministry is ready to collaborate with the private sector to advance sports development.

“This is no easy feat, and it is driven by passion and benevolence, love for the sports and love for the country,” The Minister said. “The Sports Ministry commends this effort and is proud of Afri Kings Homes Ltd for this gesture. It is a partnership that we will continue to nurture for national interest.”

“Incidentally, the Ministry of Sports Development under my leadership has also committed itself to sustaining the program under which AfriKings Homes undertook this project. The only difference is that it is now called the Adopt-A-Facility programme. In the reason of the Ministry, a facility encompasses more. As we deal with several other sporting federations, we want to ensure the window is open for all federations to thrive.”

Chairman of AfriKing Homes, Kingsley James Awodi, highlighted the company’s dedication to the project, stating that the rejuvenation of Practice Pitch 1 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium was a part of their corporate responsibility to support the Government in enhancing the nation’s sporting infrastructure.

Awodi assured the Sports Minister of their unwavering commitment to the maintenance and upkeep of the facilities for the next two years.

This significant initiative stands as a testament to the private sector’s pivotal role in fostering the development and maintenance of sporting facilities for the advancement of Nigerian sports.
