Ahead NYG 2023: Lagos Secures Tickets In 13 Sports At Southwest Zonal Eliminations

The just concluded Southwest Zonal Elimination for Ball Games for the 2023 National Youth Games (NYG) which was held at the Ilaji Stadium, Akanran, Ibadan, Oyo State was the moment for Team Lagos to once again showed their supremacy in sports within the region.

At the end of the tournament, Team Lagos secured tickets in 13 sports out of 18 sports in contention at the zonal elimination contests.

Team Lagos clinched the first positions in the male and female events of both rugby and baseball and softball, the first position in handball (male), hockey (female), football (female), and cricket (male)., while the state picked second positions in male football event, basketball (male), volleyball (male and female) and beach volleyball (female).

The Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar described the outing as a successful one, adding that the teams and officials put up a wonderful performance.

“I sincerely appreciate everyone who contributed to the success of the just concluded National Youth Games Southwest Zonal Eliminations and prayed that Almighty God will reach out to you everywhere you need Him. Thanks, and God bless,” said the Director General.

The National Youth Games will take place in Asaba, Delta State from 7-17 September 2023.
