The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command. Onikan, Lagos, AlG. Fayoade M. Adegoke, mni, has set up a 6-man investigation panel to probe the allegations of contention of women inside a male cell at Moroko Police Division of the Lagos State Command.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that this was disclosed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer,  Zone 2 Headquarters , Onikan-Lagos, SP Umma Ayub.

The image maker gave the names of the members of the panel to include DCP. Ajao S. Adewale in-charge of Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), ACP. Ogunsakin Gbenga, Officer in-charge of Zonal Intelligence Department, Mr. Emma Nnadozie, Group Crime Editor, Vanguard Newspaper, Comrade Prince Adeoye Adewunmi, a Human Rights Activist, Ivy Kanu of TVC News and Barrister Mrs. Blessing Afe, a Lawyer and Social worker.

The mandate of the AIG to the panel is to probe the incident, which was reported via a video that went viral, recently, where a woman alleged she was detained at Maroko Police Station Cell alongside some male and under-aged individuals.

“The panel is to be formally inaugurated by AIG. Fayoade M. Adegoke, at the M.D Abubakar Conference Hall, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos at 12:00 Noon on Friday, 4th October, 2024. This is in line with the contemporary force leadership stand on respect for human right and gender related matters.” the spokesperson said.

The woman in question, identified as Real Omo, had claimed that officers from the Lagos State Police Command detained her along with other women in a single cell with men at the Maroko Police Station, located in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

She made the allegation in a viral video shared on Monday by a user identified as Oyindamola, tweeting as #dammiedammie35 on X.com.
She explained that she and the other women were picked up by the Police while walking in an undisclosed area of Lekki, expressing her disbelief at the situation.

“Men and women are together in the cell. There are even young children with us. We don’t know what to do. Please, come to our aid. We are at the Maroko Police Station, and we need help right now,” she pleaded in the video.

“Last night, they picked us up and arrested us. They said we couldn’t walk because they were conducting a raid. How was I supposed to know there was a raid in Lekki? I’m a victim. Please, this is Real Omo speaking. They said I’m going to prison—for walking at night? This is too much to bear. Does this make sense?” she asked.

The video also showed an open roof and broken parts of the cell wall.

However, in response to the viral claims, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to debunk the allegations.
