Akwa United have signed five new  players to boost their  squad.

The new players are former AC Milan youngster Harmony Ikande, goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo, former Super Eagles invitee Gabriel Okechukwu, Akwa Starlet striker Edem Atang and Katsina United midfielder Chris Lolo.

The chairman of the club, Mr. Paul Bassey, who unveiled the new players in Uyo on  Wednesday, said they  were recruited to strengthen the team following the injury crisis in the Premier League side.

Bassey said, “We have done remarkably well by finishing in the fifth position in the first stanza of the league  after we languished between 19th and 20th in the first five weeks of the league.

“We are hopeful of doing better in the second stanza of the league and the only way we can reward our supporters and financiers is by getting a continental ticket.

“We have one thing in mind, if we can’t finish first, we finish second, and if we can’t finish second, we finish first.”

Meanwhile,  the  coach of the team, Abdu Maikaba, has said they will go for the league  title in the second half of the season.

The league resumes on Sunday with Akwa playing  MFM in Lagos on Sunday.
