Alimosho LG Chairman Presents ₦8.8bn 2026 Budget of Restoration and Renewed Progress

The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, on Monday, 15th December 2025, formally presented the Year 2026 Appropriation Bill to the 7th Legislative Council at the Alimosho Local Government Legislative Chamber, Akowonjo.

The proposed budget, aptly tagged “Budget of Restoration and Renewed Progress,” is aimed at consolidating development gains while repositioning the local government for sustainable growth and improved service delivery.

In his address, the Chairman expressed profound appreciation to the Legislative Arm for its consistent support and cooperation since the inception of his administration, noting that such synergy remains critical to democratic governance.

He emphasized the constitutional role of the legislature in appropriating and monitoring public funds, stressing that elected officials are custodians of public resources held in trust for the collective interest of the people of Alimosho.

The Chairman disclosed that the 2026 budget priorities include the construction and rehabilitation of roads and drainages, staff welfare, support for the aged, widows and vulnerable groups, logistics support for councillors and government officials, engagement with traditional rulers, and the development of markets and other critical infrastructure across the local government.

Highlighting achievements recorded within the short period of his administration, the Chairman listed the inauguration of Bamgbola and Benstar Streets, construction of the CDC building, mosque and chapel, customary court and advocacy centre, monthly 50 percent food subsidy initiative tagged “Ounje Alimosho,” construction of speed breakers at Shasha Road, distribution of 600 GCE forms to indigent students, ongoing construction of Old Ipaja Road, public toilets, Shekoni Street in Alaguntan, Iyana-Ipaja, and road projects at Kasali Allison Street, Orisumbare, among others.

Presenting the financial details, Hon. Johnson stated that the total proposed budget for 2026 stands at ₦8,807,431,296.72, comprising ₦5,284,458,778.04 for recurrent expenditure and ₦3,522,972,518.68 for capital expenditure.

He added that local government staff salaries amount to ₦1,137,264,302.74, primary school teachers’ salaries ₦530 million, while political office holders’ salaries stand at ₦213 million.

He assured the council and residents of strict implementation of the budget upon approval.

Responding, the Leader of the House, Hon. Semiu Rasheed Olamilekan, welcomed stakeholders to the budget presentation and commended the Executive Chairman for his vision, passion for development, and commitment to good governance.

He described the proposed budget as a roadmap for restoration and renewed progress, assuring that the 7th Legislative Council would subject the bill to thorough scrutiny, deliberation, and due process in the interest of the people.

Hon. Olamilekan reaffirmed the legislature’s resolve to work diligently with the executive to deliver dividends of democracy, noting that the Chairman’s achievements within a short period have set a high standard for public service in Alimosho.

He also extended goodwill messages to residents ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The event was attended by the Vice Chairman, councillors, council management, traditional rulers, community leaders, religious and youth leaders, invited guests, and members of the press, reaffirming a shared commitment to the continued growth and prosperity of Alimosho Local Government.
