Amidst Fanfare, Olanipekun House Wins Prince Of Glory Schools’ 4th Inter House Sports

The 4th Inter House Sports Championship of Prince of Glory Schools was held on 13 March at the Command Secondary School, Ipaja, Lagos with Olanipekun House beating all to win the coveted prize to lift the trophy.

Olanipekun House, which is also the Green House, beat other four houses to the first position.  Mr. Ola Olanipekun, SAN, former chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Abuja chapter, is the Patron of the winning house.

Engr. Ayodele House (Purple House) came second; Olufemi Atewe House (Pink House) picked the third position. In the fourth position was Omoyeni House (Blue House), while Olanigbogbo House (Yellow House) came fifth.

After a one minute silence was observed for the Proprietress of the school, the late Mrs. F.M. Omoyeni, who rested in the Lord in 2019, activities of the inter house sports started with the march past.

P.M. EXPRESS reports that the march past was a celebration of different cultures by the participating houses which athletes put on different costumes to show the rich heritages of Nigerian cultures.

“I think the march past and the display of these costumes made the inter house sports very unique. I love it and I want to applaud the athletes and their handlers for this,” said Mrs. Aderonke Akande, the vice chairperson of the inter house sports.

She also congratulated the winner and the runners up, even as she thumbed up the organisation of the event.

“I am so impressed with the packaging of this event, it is well coordinated in a serene environment,” she said.

To the Chairman of the event, Mr. Ijitola James, former Deputy Registrar, WAEC, the inter house sports was well packaged with lively display of sporting talents of the athletes.

He noted that the display in the march past showed the brilliance of the houses to outsmart one another.

He said the invitation relay race for the invited schools made him to remember his secondary school days.

“The inter house sports was well organised and I must commend everybody involved in the organisation. The large turnout of the parents also add glamour to this inter house sports especially in the parents race,” he said.

In the teacher’s race, Owen Charles and Ejike Bassey came first and second respectively in the men’s category, the female teacher’s race was won by Mrs. Julius Mariam, while Mrs. Onwell Favour and Mrs.Ubong Edet came second and third respectively.

Prince of Glory Schools cannot be equalled among its peers in Lagos education environment. The school has won the National Award in Spelling Competition thrice, coming third position in 2010, first position in 2011 and second position in 2012. It drew the attention of the Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the Noble Laureate , Prof. Wole Soyinka who honour the winner golden handshake. The Lagos State Ministry of Education, because of this exceptional feat, sent an official letter of commendation to the school.
