The Apex Igbo Sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed concern and called on the Governorship candidates for the Anambra State election to stop indecent political theatrics that is heating up the polity.
P.M.EXPRESS reports as was contained in a press release signed by the National Deputy President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and National Spokesman, Chief Chimereze Ohia respectively.
The statement read:
“In a clear and unequivocal statement, the apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, expresses its profound dismay and grave concern over the escalating descent into acrimony and character assassination characterizing the current political climate within Anambra State, particularly as it pertains to the upcoming gubernatorial elections scheduled for 8th November, 2025. This organization, bound by its mandate to safeguard and uphold the dignity, integrity, and collective interests of the Igbo people, deems it a matter of utmost importance to address the reprehensible conduct exhibited by certain prominent political figures.”
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo unequivocally condemns the dissemination of divisive rhetoric, the propagation of malicious falsehoods, and the engagement in undignified public discourse that has become increasingly prevalent. We find particularly egregious the recent campaigns of calumny that have, regrettably, emanated from individuals who once held positions of respect and influence within our society.”
“Specifically, Ohanaeze Ndigbo directs its censure towards the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 2025 gubernatorial candidate and incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo; his wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo; the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Evangelist Nicholas Ukachukwu; and the APC running mate and Deputy Gubernatorial candidate, Senator Iyom Uche Ekwunife. We find their actions to be a lamentable betrayal of the values of decency, mutual respect, and constructive engagement that are fundamental to the Igbo spirit.”
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo, speaking with the full weight of its authority, insists that the aforementioned individuals immediately cease their role as creators of hateful content and promoters of divisive narratives. Their continuous engagement in a public spectacle of mutual denigration and personal attacks is not only deeply offensive, but also serves to demean the entire Igbo nation. It is unacceptable that these individuals would choose to debase themselves and sully the reputation of our people through their shameless political machinations.”
“Furthermore, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, without hesitation, holds Governor Soludo directly accountable for initiating this deplorable trend. His use of offensive language and the mockery directed at his political rivals are entirely unbecoming of a leader and reflect a profound lack of statesmanship.”
“The organization is equally appalled by the undignified public feud between Mrs. Soludo and Senator Ekwunife. Such displays of pettiness and personal animosity among those who should be exemplars of decorum are utterly unacceptable. This spectacle diminishes the roles of motherhood and womanhood within Igbo society.”
“While Ohanaeze Ndigbo remains committed to its non-partisan stance in the Anambra gubernatorial elections, it is unequivocally resolute in its duty to defend the honour and dignity of the Igbo people. We therefore, issue a stern warning: Should Professor Soludo, Mrs. Soludo, Evangelist Ukachukwu, and Senator Ekwunife persist in their current course of conduct, Ohanaeze Ndigbo will be compelled to take decisive action, including the potential endorsement of a neutral candidate, who is committed to upholding the principles of decency, respect, and issue-based campaigning. Their continued degradation of the political process will ultimately disqualify them from leadership.”
“Enough is enough. The time for responsible leadership and respectful discourse is now” the group stated.
