Mother Maria Thomas, popularly referred to as the “Mother of Mothers,” was not only a devoted family woman and mother of Senior Apostle Folorunsho Thomas but also a pillar in the community, known for her selfless service and leadership. Her contributions to the social, religious, and political development of the Anifowoshe area made her a respected figure among her peers and an inspiration to many.
The service of songs and wake ceremony, which took place at the heart of the community, saw a roll call of notable political figures from Ikeja and beyond, who came to pay their last respect to this extraordinary woman. The presence of Ikeja’s political bigwigs, including party leaders, council representatives, and government officials underscored the impact Mother Maria Thomas had on both local governance and the lives of those around her. Each dignitary spoke of her unwavering commitment to the betterment of the community and the legacies she left behind.
Adding to the emotional yet celebratory atmosphere, the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Atuda Olu branch, provided music for entertainment and spiritual uplifting. Their soulful melodies filled the air, turning the night into a powerful blend of mourning and celebration of a life well-lived. The harmonious voices from the choir echoed through the streets, reminding everyone of Mother Maria Thomas’s deep religious faith and her unwavering support for the church.
As the community gathered to honour Senior Mother Maria Thomas, it was evident that her influence would continue to be felt long after her passing. Her leadership, kindness, and devotion to the community have left an indelible mark in the hearts of all who knew her. Anifowoshe will forever remember her as a true matriarch and a guiding light.
May her soul rest in perfect peace!
