APC Governorship Candidate Narrowly Escapes Assassination

The APC governorship candidate for the September 2024 election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Thursday afternoon at the Benin Airport.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that tragically his Police orderly, identified as Inspector Akon, was killed in the attack.

The motorcade of Senator Okpebholo was reportedly ambushed by suspected members of the Edo State Security Network and thugs said to have been allegedly sponsored by the Edo government, as he left the airport upon arrival from Abuja, the Federal capital.

During the violent encounter, three mobile Policemen attached to the Senator’s security detail were also injured by gunfire from the attackers with one of them succumbing to his wounds.

As at the time of this report, an undisclosed number of individuals are being treated for gunshot injuries in various hospitals.

Senator Okpebholo himself is believed to be receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in Benin City, along with other members of his entourage who were also injured in the attack.
