APGA Is Now A Political Party, Not A Special Purpose Vehicle

In the over two decades of APGA’s existence, party faithfuls and leaders have not had it as good as they are experiencing today. This fact is rooted in history and it may dishevel some sensibilities. But the truth must be told.

In the APGA of the past, we had a National Chairman who had a fierce running battle with an APGA Governor for refusing to conduct Local Government elections. The Party machinery was so neglected that it took Ojukwu’s personal plea for APGA members to rally behind a Governor they themselves made, just to secure a second term in office.

The disenchantment was that deep. We never even considered the possibility of losing the party we built with our sweat and blood. A lot of our people died without witnessing the possibility of a core party person or a party leader ascending to executive positions in government.

Today, APGA exists as a true political party. One that goes to acquire power, consolidate power, and use power. Not like in the past when it was treated like a Special Purpose Vehicle — used and dumped.

In almost two decades of the Party’s existence, it took Soludo for a State Officer of APGA to become a Commissioner in government. It took Soludo for a National Officer of APGA to become a Commissioner. With the regular conduct of Local Government elections, many Party faithfuls are now intentionally placed in executive positions where they can implement the Party’s manifesto.

Right now, a State Woman Leader of the Party sits in the Executive Council as a Commissioner. These are novelties that have reawakened the true spirit of political participation as the basis for social transformation.

And to think that the current National Chairman of APGA is the first in the history of the Party who can be described as an APGA pure breed. He was not imported. He was not hybrid. It took the deliberate insistence of a leader who understands how systems work and grow to make this happen.

Thank you, Soludo!
