Arsenal boss, Unai Emery, has paved the way for Shkodran Mustafi and Mohamed Elneny to leave the club ahead of the close of the European transfer window on September 2.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed Shkodran Mustafi and Mohamed Elneny are free to leave the club. The Gunners duo are currently out of favour under the Spaniard and, now, it’s been revealed that they’re free to depart with the European transfer window open until September 2.

He said: “We now have some players who know their situation. For example, Elneny and Mustafi know their position in the squad and I really want the players to be happy here, I want them to be protagonists. Last year with Mustafi and Mo, when they didn’t play they weren’t happy.

“I spoke with them a lot of times last year and in pre-season, and I think it is positive for them to leave and sign for another team where they can be protagonists, be happy and continue their careers.

“They are very big players but for one circumstance or another, they are going to have less chances to show their capacity or to be happy with us and the minutes they play in matches.

“But they know the situation and really, really I am wishing the best for them – and I think now the best for them is to be protagonists in another team, to sign and get another challenge with another team.

“We respect them, and they are training with us, but they know their situation.”

Arsenal signed Mustafi in the summer of 2016 when Arsene Wenger ruled the Emirates roost. But the Germany international has toiled throughout his time in North London and a parting of the ways seems to be in the offing.

Speaking recently, former Arsenal star Nigel Winterburn tipped the Gunners to tighten up the back. Arsenal have signed David Luiz to tighten up in defence and Winterburn believes the North London giants need more solidity in defence.

“My worry is that if you look over the last couple of seasons the away form has been poor and the goals conceded has been 51 against both times in the league alone,” the retired left-back told 888sports.

“That tells you that something isn’t working.

Elneny was linked with a move to Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window. But the Egypt international ended up remaining in North London and has since been linked with a move to Turkey.
