ASUU Strike: Fayemi Vows Not To Release Monthly Subventions To Ekiti State University

Posted on August 11, 2022

Outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, southwest Nigeria, Kayode Fayemi has threatening to starve the Ekiti State University (EKSU) of its monthly subventions not until members of the university’s branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) resume.

P.M. EXPRESS can report that the state government is owing the university seven months of N260 million monthly subventions which run to N1.82 billion.

Findings at the university revealed that the failure of Fayemi’s administration to pay the subventions has indeed crippled activities in the university owned by the same state government.

“Instead of the governor to pay the EKSU the monthly subvention of N260 million, he told the authority here that he won’t make the money available until the EKSU ASUU resume classes.

“The subvention is seven months in arrears now. We have been deliberately crippled by this singular action of the governor who we can say also come from the academics background. This is so sad,” said a source in the university who craved for anonymity.
