Beyond The APC Vs PDP Consideration ➖ There Are Legislators I Admire
MAZI EJIMOFOR OPARA

One of the greatest resources Imo State can boast of is our rich collection of intellectually driven individuals. We must consolidate on this if ever we wish to translate our literacy levels into favourable economic outcomes for our State. If our intellect is one of our greatest resources, why then should we jeopardize our chances by sending “oh yes” members to a place where nothing but policy discussions that shape our lives is carried on?
Unfortunately, there is a given pack of legislators who neither speak nor make meaningful efforts in shaping the narratives. They are merely reactive to “street feelers” and subscribe to “popular nonsense”. *Hon. Bede Eke of Ngor Okpala /Aboh Mbaise Federal Constituency* leads this pack of grandstanding legislators. Whenever they go abroad, it is either for vacation or merry making. They are never quoted in serious debates and do not engage the media with their active stand on any matter of National concern.
We have heard and seen persons, like Senators Ike Ekweremadu, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Ben Murray Bruce (Mr Common Sense) and even Dino Melaye, display rich depth of knowledge on critical national issues and even show appreciable nuisance where necessary. We have read and seen Honourables Deacon Chike Okafor, Jones Onyereri, Kazaure and others carry on same at the green chambers. They keep talking, writing and acting to shape the National narrative. They travel from one professional conference to another; engage in one technical session or the other; forging international alliances for the country and their constituents in particular.
They have opined on issues such as Federalism, Insecurity, Health sector reforms, the economy etc. Currently, the debate on State Policing is raging, and the same set of people will, as usual, lead the discussion. I may not agree with all they say. However, I am enthralled by the fact that they are speaking and giving flesh to the democratic consolidation process of our country.
Beyond the usual emotive invectives we spew at ourselves, borne out of a personalized submission to our political belief, lies a part of us that admires the good and laudable features in others. That said, I believe there are leaders across party divides worthy of commendation. This time, I want to focus on the Legislators, those of them who are really living their role and acting their part with dexterity. They are the kind of Legislators I admire.
In these sort of gatherings below, graced by some Legislators who addressed international audience and participants, will our Bede Eke find his voice? Will he even be deemed fit for such occasions?
