Bricklayer Bags 12 Years For Defiling & Impregnating Girl, 13

Justice may have come the way of a 13-year old girl, who was raped and impregnated by a 34-year old bricklayer, Oyedutun Tunde, in Oshogbo, Osun State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo has found Tunde guilty of defilement and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment.

The bricklayer, Tunde, was arraigned on 25th June, 2019, but pleaded not guilty on the  two count charge preferred against him on the offence the Police said he committed sometime in April 2019 at No. 5, Balogun Street, Omigade area, Osogbo, Osun State.

The prosecutor, Fagboyinbo Abiodun, during the trial told the Court that the bricklayer unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the victim and the rape eventually led to a pregnancy.

However, the baby died shortly after birth. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 218 and 222 of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The Presiding Magistrate, Modupe Awodele, held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and thereby sentenced the bricklayer to 12 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
