British-Sierra Leonean Artist, Ejatu Shaw, Features On Glo-sponsored African Voices

African Voices, Globacom-sponsored magazine programme on CNN International, will this week feature London-based photographer and multidisciplinary artist, Ejatu Shaw.

Born in 1996, the British-Sierra-Leonean talent is a 2020 Master’s degree holder in Photography Arts from the University of Westminster, the United Kingdom.

 She had earlier discovered her passion for photography in 2013 during a family trip to her native Sierra Leone. Her photographs explore the multifaceted aspects of her identity, blending elements from her Islamic faith and African heritage and influenced by African studio photographers of the 1960s and 1970s, including Malick Sidibé from Mali, Sory Sanlé from Burkina Faso, and Omar Yahia Barram from Sudan, among others.

Shaw began to subsequently translate her personal memories from the aforementioned sources into visual reflections. She has since experimented with self-portraiture and developed more deeply rooted projects, using her work to explore and express her heritage.

In 2025, the British Fashion Council named her a New Wave Creative. That same year, she photographed Angela Bassett for EBONY, Cynthia Erivo for The Guardian, Sunday Times, Vogue and Usain Bolt for Puma, and shot and designed singer Craig David’s album cover.

African Voices shows on Saturday at 7.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. On Sunday, the viewing continues at 3.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. with further repeats on Monday at 3 a.m. and 5.45 p.m.
