A 45-year old BRT driver, Orelope Moshood Jamiu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly driving in a dangerous and reckless manner and crushing a 64-year old man, Paul Obasi, to death in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 17th April, 2023, at Almoruf Bus Stop along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Lagos.
The driver was charged for murder under the Criminal Laws of the State and remanded in custody having been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The Police alleged that Jamiu, who was the  BRT driver with registration number,  BRI-374 and code number,  0102124, did drive recklessly and dangerously on the highway without regard to other road users and caused the death of the victim.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector, Olusegun Oke, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.C. Ayinde, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
