Nationwide League One side, Buruj Sports Academy, delivered a strong performance in the friendly match ahead of their campaign in the forthcoming NLO Season, losing by two goals to nil against Nigeria Professional Football League side, Remo Stars Football Club.

In the pulsating encounter decided on Tuesday at the main bowl of the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State, the Buruj Sports Academy youngsters showed discipline and composure against top quality and experienced Remo Stars team guided by the Technical Adviser, Usman Abdallah.

The youthful boys of Buruj Sports Academy, featuring National Under 15 stars, Raheem Salaudeen and Fawaz Adeleke, rattled the opposition’s defence early in the game, earning the chance to go in front in the third minute when the centre referee awarded the team a penalty.

Team captain, Raheem Salaudeen, stepped up to take the spot kick but the over-confident skipper skewed the ball to the disappointment of the technical crew. The momentum then shifted there-on and gulfing class began to show with Remo Stars commanding the tempo of the game, but Buruj Sports Academy showing resilience, matched the NPFL side.

Remo Stars opened scoring in the first half through a well executed corner kick. The Sky Blues doubled the advantage just before the interval as the first half ended 2-0.

Head Coach, Fatai Adekunle, introduced more players, throwing young lads into the fray in the second half. The boys did not disappoint as they showed great determination and tactical awareness by preventing Remo Stars from adding to their tally, with Goalkeeper, Edet Iyang making incredible saves.

Despite the defeat, Buruj boys displayed flashes of brilliance with Adeleke impressing players and officials of Remo Stars in the encounter watched by the president of the club, Honorable Kunle Soname.

While hoping that the side will build on the impressive outing, Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Waheed Salaudeen, said the team will play more pre-season friendlies to get the boys ready for the NLO.

Buruj Sports Academy now shifts their focus to the next friendly match against Remo Stars under 15 team, Beyond Limits Football Academy next Saturday, also in Ikenne.
