Bus Driver Smashes Senior Police Officer’s Leg While On Duty On Highway

A senior Police officer, Supol Olumide Akingbo, attached to Gowon Estate Division, is now lying critically ill after a bus driver allegedly smashed his leg and inflicted injury on him while he was performing duty on the highway in Lagos State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the 35-year old driver, Mukala Balogun, has been arrested and charged for inflicting injury on him through reckless driving without a valid vehicle license over his alleged conduct.

 

The incident happened on 4th October, 2025, along Alimosho Road by Moshalashi roundabout, Lagos, where Supol Akingbo went to perform his lawful duty.

 

According to the Police, the bus driver, being in charge of T-Ford Volkwagen bus with Registration No. FKJ 06 YD, drove the vehicle on the highway in a  dangerous manner affecting other road users and inflicted injury on the victim.

 

He was subsequently arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Mukala Balogun ‘M’ of No 17, Babadada Street, Egan Igando, Lagos State, on the 04/10/2025 at about 08:45hrs along Alimosho Road by Moshalashi roundabout, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, being the driver in charge of T-Ford Volkwagen bus registration No FKJ 06 YD drove the vehicle on the public highway in a manner dangerous to other road users and committed an offence contrary to the provision of the Transport Sector Reform Laws of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2021.”

 

COUNT ii:”That you, Mukala Balogun ‘M’ of No 17, Babadada Street, Egan Igando, Lagos State, on same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, drove same vehicle on the public highway and caused fracture to his left leg of one ASP Olumide Akingbo AP/NO159271 attached to Gowon Estate Police Station, Lagos State Command and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 19 (1) of the RTL Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2021.”

 

COUNT iii:-“That you, Mukala Balogun ‘M’ on same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, drove a vehicle without Driver’s License and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 A1b2, No 9 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2021.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 15th November, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
