Businessman, 45, Arrested After Police Found Firearms Inside His Toyota SUV

A 45-year old businessman, Omoola Oyekola, has landed in trouble after he was found in possession of firearms inside his Toyota Venza SUV in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that he has been arrested and charged for alleged illegal possession of firearm.
The incident happened at LASPOTECH Gate, along Shagamu Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, where he was accosted by the Police on routine monitoring and found with the firearm as exhibits.
He was consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Innocent Odugbo, told the Court that the defendant, Oyekola, who resides at Block 7, Opeyemi Avenue, Adamo Ikorodu, Lagos, is being tried for being in possession of firearms and committed the alleged offence when the Police patrol team operating in the area discovered a pump action rifle and a live cartridge inside the defendant’s Toyota Venza SUV.
The prosecutor told the Court that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of how he acquired the gun and was charged before the Court for the alleged offence.
He said that the offence contravened Section 330 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
He however, pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, Miss M. F Onamusi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 7th May, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
