Carpenter-Turned-Thief Jailed 6 Years For Burglary & Stealing

A 20-year old carpenter, Eniola Abdullahi Oladokun, who was jailed six years in Lagos State without an option of fine for burglary and stealing, has confessed that as a carpenter that it was easy for him to break into any apartment to steal. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the convict,  Eniola Abdullahi, was arrested after he broke into a house on 19th January, 2025, at about 0600hrs at Ireti Ogo Street, Off Asalu Bus Stop, Abaranje, Ikotun -Lagos and stole some phones belonging to Mahrufeen Kamaldeen.

 

He admitted to have cut the window net of the apartment of Mr. Kamaldeen and stole some phones worth over N1m and escaped. However, he was later traced and arrested by the Police at Ikotun Division and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

While being interrogated, he admitted to have stolen the items and informed the Police that he was able to break into the apartment through the window net to steal the items.

 

The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: That you, Eniola Abdullahi Oladokun ‘M’, a carpenter and others still at large, on the 19th January, 2025 at about 0600hrs at No 7, Ireti Ogo Street, Off Asalu Bus Stop, Abaranje, Iktoun-Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony with conduct likely to cause the breach of the peace, and stealing, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

 

COUNT II:”That you, Eniola Abdullahi Oladokun ‘M’, a carpenter and others still at large, on same date, time and place in the Aforesaid Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by cutting the window net of the apartment of one Mahrufdeen Kamaldeen “M” with intent to steal and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 168(d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

 

COUNT III:” That you, Eniola Abdullahi Oladokun ‘M’, a carpenter and others still at large, on same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did attempt to commit felony with stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable Under Section 406, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

 

COUNT IV:”That you, Eniola Abdullahi ‘M’, a carpenter and others still at large on same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did enter the apartment of one Mahrufeen Kamaldeen “M” with intent to steal and thereby Committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 308 (1), of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.*

 

COUNT V: That you, Eniola Abdullahi ‘M’ Oladokun, a carpenter and others still at large, on same date, time and place in the Aforesaid Magisterial District, did break into the room of one Marufdeen Kamaldeen with the intent to steal and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 309(2) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

 

COUNT VI: That you, Eniola Abdullahi Oladokun ‘M’, a carpenter and others still at large, on same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal IPhone 11 Promax valued N580,000.00, IPhone 6s valued N400,000.00, one Vivo Android phone valued N190,000.00, and one Android phone valued N200,000.00, Total Value of phones stolen amount to the sum of One Million Ten Thousand Naira only.

 

He pleaded guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then presented the facts of the matter and asked the Court to sentence him accordingly having pleaded guilty, to serve as deterrent to others who might want to do so in future.

 

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, found him guilty as charged and sentenced him accordingly.
