CCTV Camera Catches Lady Stealing Customer’s ATM Inside Bank

A 33-year old lady, Dorcas Awe, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly attempting to steal a customer’s ATM card unknown to her that she was captured by CCTV camera mounted inside the bank. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at FCMB Bank, Akowonjo branch.

 

According to the Police, the lady went to the bank, stole the item and while she was trying to escape, the security men on duty at the bank accosted her.

She initially denied, which prompted the security men to play the CCTV camera that recorded her while she was stealing the ATM card. She then admitted and brought out the ATM card.

 

She was handed over to the Police at Shasha Division for prosecution and was consequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charges read:

COUNT 1: “That you, Dorcas Awe ‘f and others now at large, on the 14/03/2025, at about 1000hrs at FCMB Akowonjo branch, Shasha Road, Egbeda, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II:-” That you Dorcas Awe ‘f and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did fraudulently attempt to steal an ATM card from a bank customer, as evident on the CCTV footage and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

She pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 24th April, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
