When Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the world’s greatest thinkers and philosophers, posited that; “Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit too soon; but it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged”, he must have had in mind the likes of Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize, who started from the scratch at an early age to build a business conglomerate spanning: automobiles, real estate, oil and gas,  and related businesses.
For the trail-blazing business mogul par excellence; a pan-Nigerian, respected community leader and critical stakeholder in the political leadership discuss of Nigeria, from Ihioma Community, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, it is certainly impossible to gloss over his attributes for greatness having traversed all the ethnic groups and geopolitical zones in the country while building bridges across all divides in the course of his accelerated business engagements.
Without any iota of doubt, High Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize, popularly known as Charley Akpuruka; one of the most talked about Igbo socialites, is a household name in Nigeria. In the words of Patoranking; a celebrated Nigerian singer and song -writer: “Charley Akpuruka is a big name”.
High Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize is a man of style with strong penchant for liberal-developmental politics and midas touch of excellence in any executed project. He is a dotting father and lovely husband; a jolly good fellow, grassroots mobilizer, political juggernaut, careless giver, serial philanthropist and a highly accommodating leader, who is often being misconstrued and judged wrongly by the naysayers and detractors given his rising political profile and acceptance at the grassroots through the wave of solidarity and show of love as amplified in the spontaneous now defunct ‘Obi-dient Movement’.
Charley Akpuruka means different things to different people. To his wife and children; he is the best dad in the world, a dotting father and hero, while to his supporters and admirers, he is the voice of the voiceless, a courageous leader, cerebral political actor, and a true patriot.
High Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize is not only the pride of Ihioma Community in Orlu LGA, but was also the pride of Imo West Senatorial District during the 2023 general elections when he contested for Orlu Senate; having  thrown himself up for public service.
He waged countless political wars and fought against marginalization in the defence of equity, fairness, and justice for the Igbo nation under the auspices of Obigbo pan-socio-political group alongside the late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, late Dr. Chuma Okadigbo, Dr. Batos Nwadike (Oyi of Igboland), Chief Mike Ikeokwu, etc, in the late 80s and early 90s, and won a number of these struggles for the emancipation of Ndigbo, just like the Greek mythological Odyssey who fought and won diffcult battles in history because he is solidly rooted and grounded: Chief Ahize also fought and won many battles for ndi Orlu even those considered herculean. He is a man who doesn’t play to the gallery or show off like other political elite in his class.
If given the same opportunity to serve Imo West Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, political analysts and the conservative in Imo State  have strongly maintained that Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize would not be a  sleeping Senator or push-over, but one with the strength of character, courage, milage, social contacts, strong presence, and the goodwill to attract Federal Government presence for the development of Orlu zone.
A quintessential leader, established entrepreneur, business mogul, and boardroom political strategist, High Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize, the Odozi -Ala ndi Orlu, is a lawyer by profession, businessman by nature, philanthropist by calling and aspiring public office holder just to change the representation narrative of Orlu zone, while using her enormous resources and allocated constituency project funds to establish skills acquisition centres in the four federal constituencies of  Imo West Senatorial District that will proactively engage the teeming unemployed youths for national productivity.
To Charles Ahize, the true definition of success is not measured by living a well fulfilled life but contributing massively towards societal development and enhancing the living conditions of the underprivileged.
Chief Charles Ahize, the philanthropic pathfinder, business mogul and quintessential leader has gracefully  added another year to his fruitful and eventual years on Friday, 7th November, 2025, an golden opportunity life has thrown at him to keep improving the value of human existence and giving back to the society as he is truly blessed in every sense of it.
By dint of hard work and through times, High Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize has represented the true definition of success. With an organized business conglomerate in Lagos, Abuja, Nigeria,  the business mogul attributed his early success in life to the grace of God and confidence reposed in him by his numerous business associates, state governors and other foreign investors.
However, while Chief Charles Ahize is underreported in the media, the truth remains that his great impact in human capital development, capacity building,  overwhelming youth empowerments  and social engagements through award of educational scholarships, business  start-ups to owners of small and medium enterprises, widows support scheme, donations to churches and charitable organizations, etc, have placed Odozi-Ala ndi Orlu, Charley Akpuruka, in a distinguished class of honour which is evident as he stylishly clocked 66 in good health of body and mind.
Judging from the foregoing therefore, there is no gainsaying the obvious that Chief Ahize is an iconoclastic personality who comes once in every generation;  a dedicated agent of change, a true progressive and lover of humanity. A friend of Jesus, of the church of Christ,   and of the poor. His divine antecedents and sustained landmark achievements  in business and  growing political trajectory over the last three decades is a huge testimony that Charly Akpuruka is a home boy having participated  in the transition of both military and civilian governments at all levels in Nigeria although from the background. And I doubt, if any of the contenders and the rest of pretenders in the political space  with him has the kind of rich social contacts and wide connections he can humbly boast of without noise.
Well prepared and willing to serve if given the opportunity, Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize, has gracefully turned 66 to the glory of God!
Let’s therefore, throw caution to the wind as we roll out the drums to celebrate one of the illustrious sons of Imo State from Ihioma Community in Orlu Local Government Area.
Happy birthday, High Chief Charles Ugochukwu Ahize ( Charley Akpuruka)
Happy many returns, Ugwuba Ndi Orlu.
