A 40-year old man, Efe Ovwiedo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly engaging his biological daughter in sex for 10 years, impregnating her and inducing abortion.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the 20-year old victim told the Police that her biological father started engaging her in sex when she was 10 years from 2016 to 2025. He impregnated her at some point and then induced abortions on her.

The alleged dastardly act was said to have been committed at Ikosi, Ketu and Ikorodu areas of Lagos, where they reside before the victim exposed him when she was unable to bear the trauma any longer.

The situation was said to have became so unbearable for the victim after the father threatened that he will kill her if she tells anyone about it and still wanted to have more sex with her.

Thus, a petition was written to the Commissioner of Police of the Lagos State Command against the father, who resides at Takpe Road, Ishawo, Ikorodu Lagos. He was promptly arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the victim.

After thorough interrogation at the Gender Section of the State Command,  the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.

The charges read:

“That you, Efe Ovwiedo ‘m’, sometime in 2016, at Oluyombo Street, Ikosi -Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim by having sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Efe Ovwiedo ‘m’, sometime in December 2025, at Takpe Road, Ishawo – Ikorodu, Lagos, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did rape the victim and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT III:”That you, Efe Ovwiedo ‘m’, sometime in the year 2023, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, gave the victim medicine for inducing abortion and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 145(1)(2) of the Criminal Laws of State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT IV:”That you, Efe Ovwiedo ‘m’, between 2016 to 2025, at Oluyombo Ikosi – Ketu, Lagos, and at Takpa Road, Ishawo – Ikorodu, Lagos, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did commit incest by having forceful carnal knowledge of your daughter, from the age of 10years to 20years and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 28 of Lagos State Domestic & Sexual Violence Law, 2021.”

However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Mr. Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
