The body of Chief Cornelius Nnaeto Ilechukwu, popularly called ‘Signor Dampolo’, was laid to rest today, Saturday 29th August, 2020, at Uru, Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State, amid tears and eulogies from family, classmates, friends and associates.
Chief Ilechukwu (Ife-eji-udo-eme), who passed on after a brief illness in a United Kingdom hospital on 8th April, 2020, was a seasoned businessman, Licensed Customs Clearing Agent & Freight Forwarder and the CEO, God Is Good Investment & Maritime Services Company Limited.

The final burial rites of the renowned football goalkeeper, Signor Dampolo, started with a novelty match in his honour at the Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium, Nnewi. Not minding the downpour, his classmates, the AHOBA C-SET joined by ex-Seminarians from other sets of the highly respected All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha, squared up against his fellow football players and friends with the kickoff taken by his lovely wife, Onyinye Tina Ilechukwu.

Just few hours ago, after the funeral service at Uru, Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State, the body of Chief Nnaeto Ilechukwu a.k.a Signor Dampolo, was lowered to his final resting place by pall bearers amid tears.

In their emotion laden tribute to their classmate, the AHOBA C-Set said, “Nnaetoo Cornelius Ilechukwu, you were a bundle of talents. You were a joy giver, a happiness multiplier. The closest description we can give to your essence and your existence on earth is that of a comet, that passes in a blaze of glory, outshining other celestial stars. Many people would wish that the comet stayed longer in view but behold the comet came and was gone”.

“The comet denotes many positive things to as much as would be lucky to have seen it. That’s you Signor Dampolo! We were very lucky to have been with you from 1985 till your transition on 8th April (in a distant land). But death has merely succeeded in taking away your mortal flesh, your existence but your essence is still here with us, your spirit is eternally among us. Now you rest in God and your spirit among us.”

“Ife Eji Udo Eme, you were an epitome of positivity, an ambassador of peace just as your titled name depicts. You were a proper definition of happiness, a quintessential personality. In his elucidations about happiness, the angelic doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas, mirroring Aristotle, avers that “seeking for one’s happiness is good while seeking for other’s happiness is virtuous” the AHOBA C-Set said among other things.
