CHS Ayetoro Gbede Alumni Organises Reunion, Donates Sickbay To School

Posted on December 13, 2023

All roads lead to the semi-urban town of Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State on the 23 December, 2023, as the alumni of the first secondary school in the town, Community High School, fondly called CHS, holds its first reunion.

The reunion, will, among other things, witness the handover of a sickbay built and equipped by the alumni to the management of the school.

Established in 1979, CHS Ayetoro Gbede is reputed as one of the best schools in the old Oyi Local Government Area of Kwara State before the creation of Kogi State.

The school, to its credit, have produced people who are making waves in different spheres of human endeavours.

The products of the school are currently top players in medicine, banking, IT and telecoms, the media, academics and several other professions.

The National President of CHS Ayetoro Gbede Alumni, Mr Ayo Balogun, who is the Managing Director of Cashcraft Securities, one of the foremost stock brokerage firms in the country, while briefing the media on the reunion, explained that the reunion was planned to be an avenue for old students of the school to once again gather together in a celebration mood, relive old memories, bond and network.

Balogun said: The reunion, as planned, is a great opportunity for products of our great school to once again come together in a celebration mood. And that’s why we chose the 23rd of December, 2023 for the reunion activities. It is will bring together both the young and the old, people who are established in their areas of human endeavours and those who are just beginning their professional life journeys.

“It is instructive to also note that some of the alumni have never met in life, as many of us left the school before others came but we have bonded well online and have developed great relationships. Now is the time for us to meet in person and take the bonding and relationships higher.

“Aside this, we believe that the reunion is also an opportunity for members to network and collaborate in their different areas of human endeavours. We have people who are into businesses and professions that others can key into to produce lasting partnerships that will take them to the next level.”

Speaking on the activities for the reunion, the Chairman of the Reunion Planning Committee, Mr Dele Olayemi, said the alumni will be handing over a sickbay built and equipped by it to the management of the school.

“We have different activities lined up for the reunion. These include seminars/lectures, awards and dinner night but the high point is the handing over of the sickbay we built and equipped within the school premises.”

Olayemi, who also the vice president of the alumni added: “The sickbay donation is just another of our support for the school that moulded us for what we are today. We have been supporting the development and growth of the school in several ways through organisation of annual debates, provision of exercise books and prize presentation to exceptional students of the school. We believe in doing things that can help encourage the students in their academic pursuits and making learning a better experience for them.”

The reunion, from all indications, promises to be a first of its kind as old students from different parts of the country and the Diaspora converge on Ayetoro Gbede to celebrate CHS and chart the course for better days and years for the school.
