Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Anambra State Chapter, has made a passionate appeal to Gov Charles Chukwumah Soludo CFR, to re-award the contract for the completion of the abandoned Ugwuakwu-Ibughubu-Achalla road that linked to Umunze in Orumba North LGA.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the road was awarded by the former Anambra governor, Chief Willie Obiano, in order to decongest the ever busy Nkwo Umuchu-Osete Road, and curtail incessant road accidents while giving the community sense of belonging as the road was then inaccessible.
However,  after completion of nearly forty percent of  the project, it was abandoned due to alleged paucity of funds and since then nothing has been done there.
As a result of torrential downpours, some sections of the dilapidated and deplorable road has become nightmarish and inaccessible to indigenes, commuters and visitors.
The appeal was contained in a press statement issued by the CLO’s Comrades Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mbah Chairman and secretary respectfully tagged “When one suffers directly, everyone suffers indirectly”.
The CLO called on Governor Soludo to swing into action and dispatch his Commissioner of Works and Transition Committee Chairman of Aguata LG, Hon. Chibuike Offorbuike, for on the spot assessment of the pathetic and pitiable condition of the road for prompt and immediate solution.
The CLO said, “It is of prime importance to note that if urgent and immediate step is not taken by the government to fix the road, it will disconnect the village from the Local Government. The bad state of the road has cost great havoc, erosion, excruciating pains and sufferings to the people”.
CLO equally commended a philanthropist and an indigene of the town, Chief Abraham Oti (Mighty Mighty), for singlehandedly constructing Achalla Umuchu Road and building eight bungalows for eight families from different villages in Umuchu and other numerous poverty reduction and eradication programmes.
“We appeal to other affluent individuals to emulate his humanitarian and patriotic gestures.”
“Worthy of commendation is the massive road constructions and rehabilitations across Anambra State by the Solution Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, especially Niger Street, Iweka, Zik’s Avenue, Ochanja and other roads in Onitsha, Ekwulobia Flyover and others. We solicit for the extension of such good gesture by Gov Soludo to Ugwuakwu-Ibughubu-Achalla and Obinna Iloh Street in Nkwelle to Nkpor” CLO stated.
