Community Disowns Chukwuemeka Ugwunta As Igwe Of Agbaja Umumba Ndiuno Town 

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Police operatives from the Enugu State Command have started investigation as the Enugu State Government, through the Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters, has recommended for his prosecution for impersonation under the criminal law of the State.

Apart from the alleged impersonation, the Police have an uphill task to unravel how Chief Ugwunta became a Professor with a WAEC certificate and Honorary Degree from African Society for Public Administrators, Leaders and Managers (ASPALM) in affiliation with Triune Biblical University, Global Extension USA dated 24th September, 2022.

Chief Henry Chukwuemeka Ugwunta’s woes started following a petition by the Agbaja Umumba Ndiuno Town to the Enugu State Government through the Ministry of Chieftaincy matters and Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command over his alleged conduct in the community dated 22nd December, 2025, signed by their President General, Engr. Chidiebere Ugwuonye and Secretary, Hon.Hilary Udeh respectively.

He was also suspended from contesting Igweship of the town through a letter dated 23rd December, 2025, by the General Executive Assembly meeting of the community held on the 6th day of December, 2025 over his alleged misconduct in the community.

Part of the petition stated:

“COMPLAINT OF IMPERSONATION, FRAUDULENT AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES BY ONE OF OUR COMMUNITY IGWESHIP CONTESTANTS CHUKWUEMEKA HENRY UGWUNTA “

“With all due respect and utmost humility, we the above named town development union bring to your attention the act of impersonation, fraudulent and criminal activities perpetuated by one of our community Igweship contestants in the person of Chukwuemeka Anayo Ugwunta.”

“This person had been parading himself as the Igwe of our community far and near and had been constituting nuisance in the community and environs and bringing ridicules and embarrassment to the name of the community by his conducts and activities which he had exhibited without any form of finesse or decorum.”

“He had been blowing siren within and outside the community with the license plate numbers of his vehicles covered with retinue of people following in his entourage.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was when he started threatening members of the community with bodily harm and he even threatened the Secretary General of the town development union as such too. The people being threatened were those bold enough to state to him or to his hearing that the Igweship of the community had not been concluded, that his parading and addressing himself as HRM Igwe Prof. Chukwuemeka Anayo Ugwunta, Ezechinyeleugo 1 of Agbaja Umumba Ndiuno community and of Aniagu Ancient Kingdom, Agbaja Umumba Ndiuno community was an act of impersonation. This scenarios of threatening members of the community made the town development union to realize that the situation was getting out of hand and should be addressed timely and adequately before bodily harm to any member of the community. The said contestant in question in time past had had references and incidents of criminal deteriorating activities. On this note an emergency meeting of the Executive General Assembly of the community, one of the highest decision making body of the community was convened on the 6th of December 2025 where a decision was reached for investigation into the matter and his indefinite suspension on the contest of the Igweship of the community and a ban on any other contest for any position whatsoever as regards the community if proven and the need for this letter to your esteemed office buttressing our predicament with one of our Igweship contestants.”

The said Chukwuemeka Anayo Henry Ugwunta had on several occasions and in several forums presented and addressed himself as His Royal Majesty (HRM) Igwe Prof. Chukwuemeka Henry Ugwunta within the community and environs and outside the community near and far thereby committing acts of impersonation against the traditional Igweship stool of the community while the Igweship selection process of the community is still in the embryo. Accordingly, we hereby wish your esteemed office to resurrect the State By-Law on traditional Rulers Law as specified in Cap 151; Part III; Section 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24; Pages 4471 and 4472 and for due disciplinary action by the state to be taken against him to deter any other would be contestant from the community thinking that they are above the law or untouchable.”

“Meanwhile, in his submission for the contest for the Igweship of our community, he submitted his WAEC certificate dated December 1989 and an honorary doctorate award from African Society for Public Administrators, Leaders and Managers (ASPALM) in affiliation with Triune Biblical University, Global Extension USA dated 24th September, 2022. We were immensely surprised at his parading himself presently as a professor without due merit. We even realized that Professorship is not what one just wishfully got but is academic and research based with lots of research works and academic paper presentations. By this, we presently doubt the authenticity of the Doctorate certificate presented by him to the town union for this could be a forged certificate.”

“We hereby present this situation to you with the best assurance and belief that we have taken due necessary action in protecting the populace of our community and we are of the highest hope and confidence that this matter would be handled judiciously to the best of our expectations by your esteemed office.”

In response to the petition by the community to the Enugu State Government through the Ministry of chieftaincy matter,  the Office of the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs replied the petition dated 23rd January, 2026, signed by one  Ozoagu Ogochukwu on behalf of the Commissioner stating the following.

“The President General, Agbaja Umumba Ndi Uno Town Development Union, Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State.

Sir,

RE: COMPLAINT OF IMPERSONATION, FRAUDULENT AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES BY ONE OF OUR COMMUNITY IGWESHIP CONTESTANTS, CHUKWUEMEKA HENRY UGWUNTA

I am directed to respectfully acknowledge the receipt of the letter of complaint sent to our Ministry by your Community’s Town Union, which was signed by you and one other.

Having gone through the letter as recently submitted, the ministry came up with the following findings and suggestions:”

“1. For any act of impersonation with respect to Traditional Rulers stool, the law provides for 2 years imprisonment.”

2. It is a criminal offence for one to hold out himself as a Traditional Ruler when he is not.

3. The process of the criminal proceeding should start with the report of such matter to the Police for investigations and possible arraignment.

4. In furtherance to the above, the Ministry therefore, suggests that your Community, through your Union who are witnesses to the said acts of impersonation should report to the Police for an investigation, arrest and possibly an arraignment of the culprit in Court.

5. Thereafter, the ministry in conjunction with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), will take up the matter on behalf of the government.

We therefore, plead you convey this decision to other of your Town Union members for proper action” the Ministry stated.
