A couple, Mr. Francis Pius, 25 and his wife, Dorcas, 24, has been arrested in Lagos State over indecent assault on their 2-year old daughter, Amanda, by feeding her with faeces and thereafter attempting to sell her when she did not die.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Jimoh Momodu Street, Ipaye Bus Stop, Iba area of Lagos, where they reside.
It was not confirmed if the couple was properly married before they had the little girl as the Police did not disclose the information about their marriage but stated that they were living together as husband and wife before they committed the alleged offence.
The two were alleged to have assaulted the girl, inflicted injury on her body and fed her with faeces but she did not die before they decided to sell her off.
However, they ran out of luck and were caught. They were handed over to the Police in the area, where certain revelations were made against them by their neighbours, who knew what happened on the victim.
The matter was further transferred to SCID, Yaba, for further investigation. After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them before the Yaba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment if found guilty.
When they were arraigned, they pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The prosecutor, Supol Rita Momah, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adesola Olatunbosun, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
They were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 30th November, 2022, for mention.
