Couple, Son Docked Over Land Grabbing For Reselling Land To Another Buyer

A greedy couple, Emmanuel Ugboor, 69, his wife Evelyn Ugboor, 54, and their son David Erherhemona Ugboor, 25, have been remanded by a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly selling a land they had already sold for N4m to another buyer at a higher price.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in Oriimelu area of Ikorodu, Lagos where the complainant, Adeleke Israel Adeyemo, bought the land from the defendants.
It was gathered that three months after the complainant bought the land, the defendants conspired and sold the land to another buyer.
The trio were arrested by operatives of the Zone 2 Command, Lagos, following a petition by the complainant, Adeleke Israel Adeyemo, who claimed he bought a plot of land from the family at Oriimelu area of Ikorodu on 11th April, 2024.
Trouble was said to have started when Adeyemo mobilised workers to the site on 6th July, 2024, only to discover that a structure had already been built on the land.
During the investigation, the couple admitted to have resold the property to another buyer and promised to refund Adeyemo’s ₦4 million but later fled their residence without making any repayment.
Acting on the directives of AIG Adegoke Fayoade, the Police officers tracked and arrested the family at a hideout in Lagos during the operation led by one Sergeant Adegoke Adewale and his team.
The defendants were found culpable and arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate Court sitting on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, stealing, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Supol Ibrahim Haruna, told the Court that the offences contravened Sections 411, 314, 287, and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The Presiding Magistrate, O.Y. Adefope, granted them bail in the sum of ₦1 million each with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court
The defendants were remanded at Ikoyi and Kirikiri Correctional Centres pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned to 22nd October, 2025, for trial.
