Cross River Deputy Governor, Odey Receives Peace Corps Of Nigeria

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, H.E. Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, on Wednesday, 5th July, 2023, received the Peace Corps of Nigeria led by the State Commandant, Dr. Dominic Okweche, in his office.
Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Governor appreciated the gesture and goodwill of the State Commandant and his team. He acknowledged their efforts and contributions towards the last elections and the support they provided during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He especially commended the National Commandant, Ambassador Dickson Aboh, for his resilience in seeking the accent of the bill to establish the Corps into law.  He noted that theirs was a thankless job and yet members of the corps have continued to dedicate their time and efforts to carry out their objectives. He seized the opportunity to appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to accent to the bill establishing the Peace Corps for the good of Nigerians.
Hon Odey stated that he is a big proponent of Community Policing. He said every citizen should be within 5 minutes of the next security post to prevent crime.
He assured the state commandant that this administration will partner with the Peace Corps in all relevant areas in the days ahead for the peace and security of Cross River State.
Earlier in his remark, the State Commandant, Dr. Dominic Okweche, congratulated the Deputy Governor for his overwhelming victory at the March polls.
He added that just as the Command had fully involved during the COVID-19 pandemic and the elections, they are available and committed to ensuring that they carry out their objectives through working with government, schools, non-profit and non- governmental organizations in the state. He informed His Excellency that the Peace Corps will be celebrating 25 years on Monday,10th July,2023 in Abuja. The Deputy Governor proceeded with a goodwill message to the organisation.
A highlight of the visit was the presentation of customized congratulations card to the Deputy Governor.
