Damisa Makes Case For Sustainable Development Of Sports In Kogi State

Governor Yahaya Bello

Despite having good athletes, the level of sports development is still at it’s lowest ebbs in Kogi State.
To this end, a call has gone to the Government of Kogi State to ensure that the athletes are given conducive environments for them to exhibit their God-given talents.
This call was made by Alhaji Damisa Suleiman who is the representative of North Central Zone in the current Board of Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF). He is also the Chairman of Kogi State Judo Association.
P.M. EXPRESS reports that Alhaji Damisa, an avid lover of judo, has sponsored and hosted a national championship on behalf of Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB), where Kogi state judo team came out as winners with 6 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals. Unfortunately, the state’s Ministry of Sports and the former Commissioner in the ministry, Mr. Arome Adoji could not even sent a letter of commendation to him and the Kogi State team.
“I am happy we have a new Commissioner in office who I believe he is capable to do the job. Let me use this opportunity to appeal to our Honourable Commissioner, Alhaji Sani Ogu Salisu (SOS) to please take the case of sports to the attention of His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello. There is no doubt that all the sports associations, have one time or the order, won laurels for the state. I think these exemplary athletes need to be rewarded for them to have a sense of belonging so that they could continue to make the state proud in future national competitions.
“But, the major problems hindering sports growth in the state are just two; we lack sports facilities and equipments, also we need employment for coaches and athletes. As of today, Kogi State has no employed athletes as staff.
“We have a Governor who know the values of human capacity development. I believe if the Honourable Commissioner can present our case to the Governor, he would listen,” Damisa said.
