Dangote Refinery Set To Rollout Petrol Soon

Posted on September 2, 2024

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is poised to begin the sale of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, according to authoritative sources.

This development follows a successful test run of the product at the 650,000-barrel capacity refinery.

Industry insiders have indicated that PMS will soon be available in the market.

They noted that both the government and Dangote Group are finalising arrangements for the distribution of the product.

Currently, only the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited is authorized to distribute the Dangote petrol.

The rollout of Dangote’s petrol, originally scheduled for June, was delayed due to crude oil shortages and a dispute with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority over alleged substandard diesel production

However, recent federal government measures, including the supply of crude oil in local currency, appear to be addressing these issues and facilitating the refinery’s operations.

Recall that Dangote and other local refineries have repeatedly accused international oil companies of not selling crude to the local refiners.

Recently, the Federal Government announced that the crude oil supply deal would commence in October

The management of Dangote Group also alleged that the IOCs insisted on selling crude oil to its refinery through their foreign agents, saying the local price of crude would continue to increase because the trading arms offered cargoes at $2 to $4 per barrel, above NUPRC official price.
