Dapo Sotiminu: We’ve Lost A Visionary Who Championed Grassroots Sports Development – Lagos SWAN Lagos

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Lagos Chapter is in mourning following the sudden passing of veteran journalist and member, Dapo Sotiminu, who died on Wednesday after a brief illness.

According to Lagos SWAN Chairman, Ambassador Olatutu Oladunni, the association is still reeling from the shock of Sotiminu’s untimely departure.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and friend,” Oladunni said.

“Dapo’s passing is a painful reminder of the toll that death has taken on the journalism and sports community.”

Sotiminu’s illustrious career spanned several decades, during which he rose from a cub reporter to hold various leadership positions, including Deputy Sports Editor at New Telegraph Newspaper, Sports Editor at Compass Newspaper, Director of Communication with the Nigeria Women Football League and Media Officer, Nilayo Sports Management Limited.

Beyond his professional achievements, Sotiminu was a visionary who championed grassroots sports development. His legacy in sports journalism and sports development will never be forgotten.

The statement signed by the association’s secretary, Omotunde Bello says Lagos SWAN’s family extends heartfelt condolences to Sotiminu’s family, friends, and colleagues. May his memory continue to inspire and motivate us to pursue our passion for sports journalism and development.
