Defection Of Three Aspirants: Senator Andy Uba Remains Unfazed

Posted on August 1, 2021

The APC Gubernatorial Candidate for the forthcoming elections in Anambra scheduled for 6th November, 2021, Senator Andy Uba, has declared that he nor the party in Anambra would not lose sleep over the defection of three aspirants to a number of parties following his victory at the June 26 Primaries.

Three aspirants, who contested the Primaries with Senator Uba in the persons of Ben Etiaba, Geoffrey Onyejegbu and Chidozie Nwankwo, had recently rebuffed entreaties from Senator Uba and moved to a number of political parties seeking to contest the Gubernatorial polls on those platforms.

However, for Senator Uba, the defection was not likely to create any seismic shift within the APC in Anambra State as those who left have been described as political paper tigers.

In a statement put out by the Andy Uba Media Office, Senator Uba described the decampees as his brothers, who were only bent on pursuing their Gubernatorial ambitions even if it meant that the APC collapses in Anambra.

He stated that he wished them well but remained unfazed and focused in ensuring that the APC wins Anambra in the forthcoming elections.

“We had earlier received news that eleven of our brother aspirants had dumped APC for other parties. However, it was only a whittled minority of three aspirants driven blindly by the desire to see their names on the ballot paper and nothing more, moved out despite genuine efforts by Senator Uba, other concerned actors and the Presidency to achieve reconciliation.”

“While we understand that it is the democratic right of the three to move to other mushroom parties, we wish them well. We wish to state that our principal, Senator Andy Uba, is unfazed by such antics from political paper tigers, who solely wanted the APC to collapse because the party was not given to their inordinate ambitions to be Gubernatorial candidates on the party’s platform.”

“Let us even ask, how many of them actually campaigned for the ticket? Also what political value do these aspirants have or possess to dislodge the ruling party in Anambra State?”

“For us, the fact that 8 of the eleven aspirants refused to leave with the paper tigers is a testament to the fact that Senator Uba’s reconciliatory moves alongside others are yielding fruits.”

“We thus enjoin all party members to support our principal’s focused approach to victory come November the 6th, as it is the only way we can usher in a Greater Anambra.”
