Police operatives from Gender Section of the Lagos State Command have arrested a domestic staff, Usman Musa, for allegedly defiling his boss’ 10-year old daughter.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ishola Yusuf Street, Iloro area of Agege, Lagos, where they reside.
The Police alleged the suspect to have defiled the victim severally after he was engaged by the victim’s parents as a domestic staff and he instilled fear in her by threatening to poison her if she reveals it to her mother and the little girl kept the abuse to herself.
However, the act got exposed after the mother observed changes in her behaviour and asked her to know what happened. The girl eventually told her mother what happened and how the domestic staff threatened to poison her if she reveals it to her.
The matter was reported to the Police at Dopemu Division and the suspect, Musa, was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thoroughly interrogating the suspect, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing and refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the seriousness of the alleged offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 6th February, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
