18-year old Emmanuel Okei has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly beating a 17-year old girl, Miss Idowu Olarinoye as she slumped and died in the process during a brawl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Okei, has been arrested and charged for murder over his alleged conduct.
The incident happened on 11th February, 2025, at Onitiri area of Ikotun, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect and the deceased had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter, which led to exchange of words and physical fighting between them. In the process, the suspect hit the deceased on her chest and she slumbed.
She was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment but the Doctor merely certified her dead and the corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy reports.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division and the suspect was arrested and transferred to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation.
The Police found him culpable for murder after thorough interrogation for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, EMMANUEL OKEI ‘M’, on the 11th day of February, 2025, at about 1800hrs, at Onitiri area of Ikotun, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Idowu Olarinoye ‘F’ aged 17 years by hitting her chest with a fist blow and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 224 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Alaka, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
