Super producer and Mavin Records CEO Don Jazzy has partnered with tech entrepreneur and CEO of Tsaboin, Dele Odufuye to launch a tech brand, Flobyt WiFi.

The Flobyt co-founders unveiled their digital service on Friday at a media event in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Speaking at the launch, Odufuye said Flobyt is a free WiFi service that will be installed across partner locations in Lagos like eateries, parks, taxis, buses, restaurants, cafés and many other businesses.

The service, he said, was designed to replicate the home WiFi experience when people are out and about, and is also free for patrons of a business who wish to access the internet while in the premises of the patron locations.

“Flobyt is 100% free for the users and our partner locations, all you have to do is walk in and log in. In fact, our working slogan is ‘Don’t use your data, use ours,” Odufuye said.

He noted that the internet router itself is a plug-and-play device that does not require much technical know-how to operate.

“It’s quite easy. You simply walk into any of our partner outlets and patronise them. While you are at that, you can log into Flobyt’s free WiFi service available. Join the “Flobyt FREE Wifi”. If your browser pops up for authentication, just visit www.mavinrecords.com or click on “Free Access” button shown to you,” said Odufuye.

At the specified locations, between 10-30 people can be connected to Flobyt at the same time while in locations with higher traffic, Flobyt Max can provide internet service to 10 – 80 concurrent users.

Odufuye said Free WiFi in a public place is not the safest avenue to share private and personal information but security protocols are in place for regular authentication and automatic disconnection of any middle man [hacker].

While admitting that Flobyt is not the first attempt at a free Wi-Fi solution in Nigeria, but he said the co-founders have faith that it would be the only enduring one.

“We know that this is not the first free WiFi proposition in Nigeria. However, we are using state-of-the-art Wi-fi technology equipment that balances speed, quality of service, security and data consumption. These equipment are light weight and easier to manage. These are the technological and business edges,” Tsaboin CEO added.

In his remark, Don Jazzy enthused over the solution with much optimism.

He noted that he believes in Flobyt to succeed, while disclosing that it is one of his few investments he planned to unveil in 2017.

“I believe so much in this. This is one of the few other investments we are going to be sharing with you.

“I have been on social media for a long time. I know how expensive data is. I give free airtime, now it’s time to give free WiFi,” he said.

He disclosed that businesses and users can nominate their location to be hosts free of charge to Flobyt WiFi by filling out a form on the website.

The company plans to take its services to other parts of Nigeria, through West Africa and ultimately throughout Africa giving the public access to free internet while providing value for the business owners.

Flobyt WiFi is currently installed in various locations across Lagos mainland and island including Bar Enclave, Ilupeju; FoodHouse, Ikosi; Lounge 9a, Anthony; Massimo Bar, Ikeja; Grace’s Cakes, Ogba; Jazzment Salon Lekki; Kayz Place Barbershop, Lekki; Amala Express, Lekki; White House, Sabo, Yaba and Road Star Burger, Lekki.
