DPO Alabi Demonstrates Professionalism After Attack Inside Isokoko Station By Deported Suspect

The Divisional Police Officer of Isokoko Division, Agege, Lagos, SP Alabi U. Abiola, demonstrated a high level of professionalism after he was attacked both outside and inside the Police station by a 28-year-old man, who was recently deported to Nigeria.

The suspect, Lamido Jiga, was arraigned on Tuesday before an Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos on a four-count charge bordering on felony, assault on a Police officer, unlawful drug consumption, and willful damage to property.

According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on July 8, 2026, at about 2:50am along Majaro Street, Agege, within the Ikeja Magisterial District.

The prosecution, led by SP Philip Ademigbuji, alleged in Count 1 that Jiga committed felony to wit serious assault on a Police officer. In Count 2, he was alleged to have unlawfully assaulted SP. Alabi while he was performing his lawful duty by giving him fist blows all over his body. The offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 411 and 174(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

In Count 3, the suspect was accused of unlawfully consuming an unprescribed drug suspected to be Rohypnol, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the NDLEA Act.

In Count 4, Jiga was alleged to have willfully and unlawfully torn the DPO’s uniform inside Isokoko Police Station, valued at N20,000. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Police sources said the suspect was recently deported from abroad after committing an offence before he allegedly attacked the DPO in Agege.

ASP Susan Jeremiah, AP/No. 220809, attached to Isokoko Division, Agege, served as the Investigating Police Officer in the matter.

When the charges were read to him, Jiga pleaded not guilty.

Ruling on the bail application, the Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The Magistrate ordered that the sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Due to inability to meet the bail conditions immediately, the court ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfillment of the bail terms.

The Magistrate adjourned the case for mention to enable the prosecution to assemble its witnesses and present evidence.

The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the attack on SP. Alabi, describing it as an assault on the authority of the state. Residents of Agege have also commended the DPO for exercising restraint and professionalism despite the provocation both outside and inside the station.

Legal experts say attacks on Police officers while performing lawful duties attract severe penalties under Lagos State law, and the prosecution is expected to call witnesses to prove the allegations.
