DPO Escapes Assassination At A Popular Hotel
CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

The fate of a Divisional Police Officer, DPO, attached to Igando Division SP Ogoezi Rawlings is hanging in the balance following a brutal attack on him by members of cult group in a popular hotel in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS confirmed that SP Rawlings was seriously wounded and was rushed to a hospital where he is being treated.
The incident happened at Sasbet Hotel located at Afolabi bus stop Igando in the outskirt of Lagos at about 11pm where the cult members had gathered to have their meeting on 4th of January, 2018.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the embattled DPO suffered a fracture after the attack by the group whose identity was not yet known but used the hotel as meeting point.
It was gathered that trouble started when the DPO got information that the group was having a meeting and also forcefully initiating victims at the hotel.
He then mobilised and led a team of police officers to the hotel to rescue the victims and arrest members of the group.
However, when the group saw the team of policemen led by the DPO at the hotel, they attempted to escape and in kind of reprisal attacked the DPO, got him injured and he was rushed to a hospital.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that in attempt to disarm the DPO, the suspects had used an iron to inflict injury on his right hand to the extent that he was seen at the police station with Plaster of Paris, POP because of the injury he sustained.
Sources at the police station said apart from the injury he sustained on his hand, he suffered other injuries on some parts of his body which has put his life in danger.
The residents who knew what actually happened had indicted the hotel management over the attack on the DPO.
It was learnt that the unholy activity going on in the hotel leaked, when one of the victims who the group had wanted to initiate managed to escaped from the hotel by scaling the fence and reported what happened to the police.
Thus, the DPO mobilised his men and they went to the hotel but met strong resistance from the hotel security guards led by one Taiwo who insisted that the police will not enter the hotel. It was then that the group mobilised, attacked the DPO and frustrated their investigation which helped the members of the group to escape.
However, four of the suspects have been arrested and detained at the police station over the attack. Though the DPO could not be reached but a source at the police station confirmed the incident.
The source said that the suspects and others at large will be charged for serious assault and involvement in cult activities.
