Driver, 32, Docked For Battering Female DTO While Driving Without License

A 32-year old private driver, Rotimi Oni, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly battering a female Police Divisional Traffic Officer of Gowon Estate Division, Supol Odunmad Yetunde, for apprehending him while driving on the highway without license.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oyewole Street, Orile-Agege area of Lagos, where Yetunde was performing her lawful duty.
The victim, Yetunde, suffered her fate when she was on routine check and
accosted Oni while driving his Toyota Matrix with registration number, KJA 941HT and she asked for his driver’s license.
This was said to have angered Oni, who came out from his vehicle and rained fist blows on Yetunde and pushed her out of the vehicle. She injured her legs and her phone was also damaged in the process.
However, the Police team from Elere Division, who noticed what happened, moved in, arrested Oni and detained him at the station for assaulting the victim.
During interrogation, Oni claimed that he was angry that Yetunde apprehended him. He then attacked and injured the victim in the process.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Adeitan Oluwabunmi, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.A. Agbaje, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The Court ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned for mention.
