Woman, 43, Docked For Stabbing Man On Stomach With Scissors During Public Brawl

A 43-year old woman, Mariam Atiku, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stabbing a man, Ohiwadare Emmanuel, on the stomach with scissors and inflicting grievous harm on him during a public brawl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 19th July, 2025, at the BRT Bus Stop, Igando, over an undisclosed matter.
According to the Police, the woman had a disagreement with the complainant, which led to exchange of words and later degenerated to a fight between them.
During the fight, the woman brought out scissors, which she used to stab him on the stomach and inflicted serious injury on him.
The complainant was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment while the matter was reported to the Police at Igando Division. The Police operatives then arrested and detained her at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
The Police found her culpable after rounds of interrogation and charged her before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Mariam Atiku ‘F’ on the 19th day of July, 2025 at about 2047hrs at BRT Bus Stop, Igando, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully stab one Ohiwadare Emmanuel ‘M’ with scissors on his stomach, which caused grievous harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 245 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Esther Adesulu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ogun, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
