Edo Earmarks 91 Roads For Repairs In Phased Rehabilitation Exercise Across Three Senatorial Districts

The Edo State Government has earmarked 91 roads for repairs and rehabilitation across the three senatorial districts of the state, noting that work will commence in earnest as the rains recede.

In a statement, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ferguson Enabulele, said the roads penciled down for rehabilitation are located in Edo South, Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts, noting that the move is in line with the government’s commitment to ensuring durable infrastructure to improve livelihoods and drive urbanization.

He said the exercise is being undertaken in phases, noting that while the first phase will soon commence, a list of more roads to be rehabilitated across the state are being compiled for subsequent phases.

According to him, some of the roads earmarked for repairs in the first phase are in Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, Egor, Ovia North East and Uhunmwonde Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo South; in Edo Central, roads in Esan West, Esan Central, Esan North East and Igueben LGAs will get a facelift, while in Edo North, the affected LGAs include Etsako West, Akoko Edo, Etsako East and Owan West.

“The total number of roads to be rehabilitated in this phase is 91, with 67 in Edo South; 11 in Edo North and 13 in Edo Central,” he said.

The road projects in Edo South, according to him, include construction of Ukpeigbivbiore Street and lane between 1st and 2nd East Circular Road; reconstruction and erosion control of Imuetinyan Street, off Ihama Road, Benin City and construction of Austin Street, off MTN Mast Road, Ugbor, Benin City.

Others are Jemila Road, Ikpoba Hill, off Benin-Agbor Road; Edo Street; Eweka-Osunde Street; failed portions of M.M. Way; Igun Street; Agho Street, off Ekehuan Road; Omosefe Street, off Okhoro Road; 2nd Junction, by Faith Motors; 1st Ugbor; Eweka Street, off Siloko Road; Upper Oba Eweka/Ogbetuo/Federal Avenue, GRA; Ekae Market Road, Off Sapele Road; Ighile Street, Off Oba Ovonramen Street, Abuja Quarters, among others.

The roads in Edo North include Iyate-Oyagha Grammar School Road, Poly Campus2 Road; Jattu-Iyuku Road, all in Etsako West LGA, and Federal Government Girls Road, Ibilo, Ajayi Momodu Road, in Akoko Edo LGA, among others.

In Edo Central, the roads include Oviasogie Street, Ekpoma; Cele Church Road, Ekpoma; Dova Road, Ekpoma; Aburimen Street, Ekpoma, all in Esan West LGA, while in Esan Central, the roads are Ugbegun Palace Road, Ugbegun; Akho-Momodu Road; Ovienria Street, Irrua, all in Esan Central, among others.
