Education District Seeks Improved Academic Performance Among Students

The Lagos State Education District 1 has inducted some of the students, who won laurels for their schools and the State Government, into its prestigious Students Diplomatic Corps as Dean, Ambassadors and Delegates.
The induction was held at Government Senior College, Agege, where last year’s student participants in both academic competitions and co-curricular activities were celebrated, rewarded and presented with cash gifts and plaques.
The Tutor-General /Permanent Secretary of the District, Mrs. Titilayo Solarin, who addressed teachers, Principals, students, parents and education stakeholders at the event, explained that the recognition was intended to be a morale booster to encourage the outstanding students to put more effort into future competitions in which the District would participate.
Her words: “The induction of the winners into the prestigious Students Diplomatic Corps as Dean, Ambassadors and Delegates would spur a healthy rivalry among the students and encourage them to be more committed to their academic and co-curricular activities going forward.
“In year 2021, the performance of students of the District in external examination results rose from 38 percent to 91 percent, a feat made possible through the various interventions by the State Government”.
While emphasising that the reward for hard work is more work, Mrs. Solarin informed that the District, including the teachers, Principals and students, is ready to do more to exceed the successes recorded last year.

“As a matter of fact and as a proof of their determination and dedication to the success of our students and Education District 1, the teachers and Principals have indicated their readiness to sacrifice the holiday periods to further prepare the students for outstanding performances in all their exams and competitions”, she stated.
The TGPS noted that it takes competence, commitment, creativity, diligence, dedication, determination, innovativeness, responsibility, focus, purpose-driven attitude and, most importantly, the fighting spirit to win and attain great heights.
She commended the teachers, whom she described as the major contributors to the success, saying that they and the instructors gave their time, money, resources, knowledge, creative and innovative ideas to make the students emerge winners.
Noting that the District is not unaware that there is still much to be done, Mrs. Solarin stated that the celebration and recognition were only a way of acknowledging the commitment, zeal, determination and dexterity at making the students showcase their talents.
She appreciated other educational stakeholders, including the Citadel Global Community Church, Ikeja, for partnering with the District to improve the standard of education among its students.
The Director of Co-curricular, Science and Technology Department of the District, Mrs. Lucy Omoaka, affirmed that the students made the District and the State Government proud in drama, mathematics, quiz competitions and debates, among others.
She applauded some private organisations that had also contributed to the success of the students and teachers through capacity building and exposure to ICT training.
In a goodwill message, Pastor Tunde Bakare of Citadel Global Community Church, Ikeja, represented by his wife, Mrs. Olayide Bakare, thanked the State Government for providing a conducive teaching and learning environment for the students across the State to excel and perform optimally.
According to him, Education District 1 is living up to its vision of producing tomorrow’s leaders of distinction in knowledge, skill and character, adding that the District can only get better at what it does.
The Pastor advised the students to guide against peer pressure, build on the solid foundation already laid for them by the school and be determined not to join bad gangs.
