EFCC Top Prosecutor Iheanacho, Ubani, 98 Others Shortlisted For 2024 SAN Conferment

Posted on July 3, 2024

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced the shortlisted applicants for the conferment of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for the year 2024.

The list, released on Monday, July 1, 2024, includes 87 advocate applicants and 11 academic applicants.

Among the notable names on the advocate applicants list is EFCC top prosecutor Ekele Ihanacho, Monday Ubani, Oluronke Adeyemi, Esq., and Mofesomo Ayodeji Tayo-Oyetibo, Esq.

The academic applicants list features esteemed Professors such as Prof. John Alewo Agbonika, Prof. Osy Ezechukwunyere Nwebo, and Prof. Nlerum Sunday Okogbule.

The LPPC has invited the general public to comment on the integrity, reputation, and competence of the shortlisted applicants.

Any complaints must be accompanied by a verifying affidavit deposed to by the author before a Superior Court of Record in Nigeria or before a Notary Public and submitted in twenty copies.

Hajo Sarki Bello, Esq., Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, emphasized that the publication of the shortlisted applicants’ names does not indicate their success in the process.

The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is the highest professional rank in the Nigerian legal profession, equivalent to the rank of Queen’s Counsel in the United Kingdom.

The conferment of the SAN rank is a recognition of the recipient’s distinguished legal career, outstanding contributions to the development of the law, and exemplary leadership in the legal profession.

The final list of successful applicants will be announced by the LPPC after a rigorous screening process, which includes an assessment of their professional competence, integrity, and contributions to the legal profession.

The conferment ceremony is expected to take place later this year.
