In order to defend the title won last year in U-12 World Challenge Cup in Osaka, Japan, Chairman of Iganmu Football Club of Lagos, Abayomi Michael Egbayelo said they have concluded screening for the players who fall under 12 category recently in Lagos and Ogun State.
He said the screening exercise was necessary in order to select best players that will represent Iganmu Football Academy in this year’s edition.
Egbayelo revealed that his coaching crew had selected 70 players in the recent screening in Lagos and Ogun States, saying that the next screening would take place in Ado- Ekiti, Ekiti State in April.
“We just finished the U-12 screening exercise in Lagos and Ogun States and I am happy that we had good screening exercise and selected good 70 players that will be invited for the final screening in Lagos. What we are targeting now is to take the screening exercise to Ado- Ekiti and come back to Lagos for final screening exercise.
“We are doing this to pick the best that will represent the country in U-12 World Challenge Cup in Japan,” he said.
Egbeyelo explained that he had singlehandedly sponsored the team to Japan last year without the assistance from Lagos State Football Association, Nigeria Football Federation NFF and corporate bodies.
“ I personally sponsored the team to Japan with my money, no government support, no corporate support and individual failed to assist us. The expectation is high for this year because of our victory last year.U-12 Barcelona team have been the champions for the past three years before our feat last year. The Lagos FA and NFF knew about the tournament so we are expecting them to come to our aid this year , “ he said.
The club boss said those that would be selected this year will be sponsored by himself, boasting that he would defend the title won last year in Japan.
