Eid-El-Kabir: Something About The Sacrifice
CHRIS MUSTAPHA NWAOKOBIA JNR
It is about selfless sacrifice, about a moment that reshaped history, about a character in the history of humankind who elected the divine over self, it is about Ibrahim putting his son to the altar as sacrifice, as commanded in a test by the Almighty ALLAH, and about a pleased Allah providing a Ram as alternative. EID-EL-KABIR is more than a feast, it is about sacrifice.
As I wish the Muslim Ummah worldwide Happy Eid, I must emphasize the reason for the season, and provoke a new thinking that must revolutionize our approach to FAITH, to POLITICS, to GOVERNANCE, to MORALITY, and to all that concerns HUMANKIND. EID-EL-KABIR is more than a feast, it about sacrifice.
We must learn to love one another, if we say we love God, and we must understand that sacrifice for the well-being of the other is at the heart of true religion. In our private lives LOVE should prevail, in our business life LOVE should superintend, in our politics LOVE should be summum bonum, and in all we do, sacrificial LOVE which is the fulcrum of FAITH must be the linchpin.
As I celebrate with humankind this day, may those who tyrannize and terrorise our planet in the name of FAITH realize that the Almighty frowns at bloodletting of any kind, may they realize as commanded in the Holy Quran, ‘let there be no compulsion with faith’, and may we realize that we are all children of Abraham/Ibrahim.
May those whose politics is about ‘me, myself and I’, those who have left the North impoverished and largely uneducated, those who loot and steal wealth they do not need in 10 life times, those who have left the IDPs in hunger, those jumping from one party to another for selfish gain, and those who lay pretentious and perfidious claim to integrity, learn about sacrifice.
