Ekwunife Congratulates Lawan, Gbajabiamila & Past Senate Presidents For Permanent Site Of National Institute For Legislative And Democratic Studies

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, yesterday, Thursday, 25th May, 2023, congratulated the Senate President, Lawan, House of Reps Speaker, Gbajabiamila and past Senate Presidents as she attended the commissioning of the permanent site of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, which was held in Abuja, Nigeria.
The institute is a capacity building agency of the National Assembly aimed at providing technical services to the legislature and other institutions of democracy in Nigeria.
Ekwunife, who spoke to the press shortly after the commissioning exercise by President Muhammadu Buhari stated that the institute is a legislative research hub of the country whose enormous contributions in effective and accountable legislatures, and also strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy cannot be overemphasized. She commended the institute for their dedication and commitment towards enriching and enhancing the performances of lawmakers through capacity building workshops.
The Federal lawmaker urged the institute not to derail from its vision and core objectives as spelt out in the sections 2 and 3 of the institute’s establishment act (as amended). According to the senator, “Democracy plays a very important and critical role in Nigeria’s national development and the synergy between the National Assembly and the institute will impact positively to the people”.
Responding to questions on her performance in the National Assembly, Ekwunife reiterated that she has put her zone on the chart of National development through robust and people-driven representation, adding that the impact of the quality of bills and motions she sponsored and attracted infrastructural development projects across the length and breadth of the communities in her zone have etched her name in the sand of times.
Ekwunife appreciated God for the over 40 housing projects to her credit which were tailored to improve the quality of lives of widows and the less privileged among the constituents.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation while noting that she has achieved her campaign promises to constituents extended congratulations to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, PhD, CON, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the Past Senate Presidents for their roles in the establishment of the institute, and completion of its permanent site.
