The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, has hailed Nigerian Workers for their tireless contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, in spite of fluctuating economic realities.

In a statement released on Sunday, May 1, 2022, in commemoration of the 2022 May Day celebration, Ekwunife congratulated the workers for their resilience, sacrifices and contributions to the Nigerian economy, noting that there can be no development without a motivated and agile workforce.

“I salute all Nigerian workers for their sacrifice and resilience. Workers are the foundation on which the building blocks of our national development are laid. Without the individual and collective contributions of workers to our economic growth, there can be no development in Nigeria. We must therefore always recognize and celebrate the crucial roles that our workers play in the development of our nation”, the federal lawmaker said.

While urging Nigerian workers not to relent in their efforts to grow our economy and build a stronger and safer Nigeria, the Chairman Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation lamented over the lingering strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). She called for an amicable resolution of the months-old strike, adding that the shutdown of academic activities in our universities reverses the progress made in the educational sector.

Ekwunife further reacted to the state of insecurity in the country. She described the spate of killings across the nation as worrisome, calling on the government and the security agencies to address the alarming rate of insecurity in many states of the federation.

Senator Ekwunife commended the leadership and members of the organised labour for their patriotism and urged them to always put dialogue ahead of industrial action while resolving trade disputes. She assured that she will continue to utilize the instrumentality of legislation to ensure that the nation’s workforce is adequately positioned and motivated to implement the policies of the government.
